“Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been.” ~David Bowie
Tired of anti-aging propaganda? Firm this, color that, smooth this, inject that…. panic and freak out over your body’s natural process. Marketing preys on insecurities and perpetuates the notion that a woman’s value is tied to her physical appearance.
Women need examples of how to age with grace and love instead of being taught to fear and resist time.
We’re pressured to slather on skin cream, cover up grey hair, or carefully apply make-up to try and make ourselves look younger. Some get Botox injections or spend thousands of dollars on plastic surgery.
Aging is difficult to accept in a society that tells us we’re not as valuable as we used to be once our bodies start to change. We’re conditioned to think that young equals attractive and happy, while old equals ugly and miserable. As a culture, we’re also terrified of mortality. Aging is an uncomfortable reminder of our imminent death. Which is all very frightening.
Getting older is inevitable so we might as well redefine what it means to grow old.
💋Love yourself and be grateful for your life experiences.
💋Reject the notion that your value decreases with time.
💋Stay young at heart and wise in mind.
💋Ensure you’re treated with respect and dignity.
💋Nourish your body and mind.
💋Praise women (and girls) for their integrity and accomplishments, not just their looks.
Wrinkles are a mark of wisdom, grey hair a medal of honor. We’ve earned these indicators of time and the right to bear them with pride!
